happy new year!

The year 2012 has come to an end. For us it has been full of happiness and great sorrow and as usual very eventful. We will never forget 2012 as it’s the year we created Home and Delicious, our tiny litle project, that has grown incredibly well these months but is just a baby yet and a lot more to come. We’ve gotten such a great response from all over the world and it encourages us to keep on the hard work and let our dreams come true. We believe in 2013!

We are infinitely grateful to all of you, our dear readers and followers. We wish you a happy new year with hopes it will be rich and generous to you.

All the best from Iceland, Halla Bára and Gunnar

red, bright and shine a light for tonight

Not quite sure what to wear tonight? I thought I might help you out of that crisis and suggest wearing something red. Red is surely appropriate for new years eve. I think it's positive and optimistic kind of color at the moment and I really like wearing my red curdory trousers from Madewell and red sweatpants from Zara. Use white, grey, camel, black, denim, flats, heels, jewellery, layers, blazers, leather... it all goes perfect with red. Like fireworks! Find some inspiration and I will be happy. Red nails are enough – always lady-like and seductive.

for dinner this new years eve...

...slow-cooked pork belly we did for the second issue of Home and Delicious. Slow-cooked food is very charming in many ways. It has a unique taste and the cooking process is relaxed and rewarding. But what many of you who cook often will recognise, is that when it‘s finally time for dinner the chefs appetite may have dwindled! This happens more rarely if you take the time to cook in this way. Hence, everyone will at ease enjoy the meal knowing that it was made with the love and sincerity of the chef.

The slow-cooked pork belly is served with creamed cannellini beans as well as the stock from the meat. This meal has the great advantage of re-use in other meals of no less quality than the original. That's what we love even more and that's why we chose it for tomorrow night...to have something delicious for lunch the next day. We haven't decided the starter yet but for desert we'll have tiramisu.

If interested you can find the recipe here and flip to page 160.

delicious bite for new years eve

Today in Fréttablaðið (each Saturday we make some recipes for the biggest newspaper in Iceland) we recommended these recipes as the perfect bite for the party on New Years Eve. We published it in the first issue of Home and Delicious and you can find the link here on page 152-155.

more christmas feeling II

What defines interior architect Thelma Friðriksdóttir's living room when it comes to Christmas ornaments is the way that she arranges multiple objects together in few locations, instead of dispersing them all over. As we published in our December issue these are Christmas ornaments and beautiful gifts that her three children Bríet, Búi and Steinar have made at school or preschool as many of us can relate to in December. Each year the collection grows with more homemade treasures.

akureyri – reykjavík

When we drove back home yesterday, from Akureyri to Reykjavík, the weather and the brightness in blue were amazing. Part of our journey the wind was blowing quite harsh and the snow all around, but the condition otherwise fine. Specially to sit in the car and enjoy the spectacular scenery. I took some images on my phone just to show you Iceland today. The weather is getting worse at the moment and predicted to be the worst in years tonight and tomorrow. But the brightness in blue is unique as we have it here up north!

more christmas feeling

We are back as the blog has been having some rest like all of us. Basically the rest wasn't supposed to be that long, but when we arrived home yesterday after being in my hometown Akureyri during Christmas, the internet wasn't working. We tried everything, got some help, but nothing worked. Just and hour ago we were connected again to the world. I was thinking about how desperately we are dependent on the internet for everything we do – like for us; publishing a web magazine and blogging. If not the Internet...

Now I feel we should enjoy these beautiful images from the home of our dear friend Inga Bryndís we published in the Christmas edition of Home and Delicious. Inga Bryndís prides herself on creating her own Christmas ornaments. Each year she makes something new transforming her home each December, not to repeat the same theme twice. Many would assume that her decorating is done very unconventionally but those who know Inga feel that her work accurately reflects her personality.

merry christmas

As the clock is ticking and the bells soon start ringing
we wish you all a very merry Christmas.

Photos from Akureyri few hours ago when it had been snowing
and the weather more then wonderful.
Oh, so Christmassy!

are you decorating your christmas tree?

Are you decorating your Christmas tree and want to do something unusual?
Here you can find three very uncommon ways to do so.
The first one might be difficult to execute!
The second one, use photos instead of other ornaments.
The third one, use two trees instead of one.
Tomorrow morning you'll wake up and see something
completely different in your living room.
